This bookmark features an intricate pattern from a traditional house in Vale da Boa Hora next to Parragil, in the Algarve. Old lace from this façade extends its reading while the olivewood tells the story of the grove, supported by colorful burel wool. And the burel wool, once destined for shepherds’ capes, communicates centuries of spinning and weaving of wool from the Bordaleira sheep of Serra da Estrela.

Dimensions: 3 x 19,5 cm, up to 3mm thick

Burel wool fabric made in the mountains of Portugal.
Olivewood from trimmings of active orchards.
Package crafted from Portuguese cardstock.

The color and figure of the olivewood varies; each piece is unique and will not match the photograph.

frieze / platibanda – traditional Algarve houses feature horizontal bands, often decorated, at the top of their facades to screen the roof or terrace from view
